Jeanne Carpenter is a cheese geek. In 2006, she began writing Cheese Underground, and on July 12, will debut Cheese Underground Radio, a weekly podcast. As an American Cheese Society Certified Cheese Professional, she eats, writes and talks about cheese for a living.
In 2009, Jeanne founded Wisconsin Cheese Originals, giving her the opportunity to educate consumers about the art and science of artisan cheese through classes, events and tours.
She also works as a professional cheesemonger and cheese buyer for Metcalfe’s Markets in Madison, helping Wisconsin artisan cheesemakers introduce new products to market.
You’ll find her byline in a variety of food magazines, including Edible Madison and Culture.
During her journey to the world of cheese, she worked as an award-winning journalist at newspapers in Wisconsin and Idaho, served as spokesperson for the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, and was pivotal in the development of the Dairy Business Innovation Center, a non-profit widely credited for helping reinvigorate the Wisconsin dairy industry in the 2000’s.
Her motto is: Have Fun. Do Good. Eat Cheese.
